APC clears 28 aspirants for Kogi gov primary.

The All Progressives Congress has cleared 28 aspirants to contested the August 29, 2015 governorship primary ‎of the party in Kogi State.

The 28 aspirants, jostling to clinch the party’s ticket for the governorship poll, have also signed an undertaking to abide by the outcome of the party’s primary scheduled to hold in the state capital.
National Organising Secretary of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso, while presenting clearance certificates to the aspirants at the party headquarters in Abuja on Monday, said the party insisted that aspirants must sign the undertaking in order to put the aspirants under check.
‎Izunaso reminded the aspirants that the party had conducted similar exercise ahead of the party’s presidential primary in December 2014.
He said, “That undertaking was what saw us through. Immediately after the primary, all the aspirants embraced the winner and then agreed to work together. That was the first step that guaranteed us that victory during the general elections of March 28.
“Today, the National Chairman and indeed, the National Working Committee have approved that all the 28 aspirants signed an undertaking with the party. It is not compulsory, it is optional; it is in your own interest. If you want to sign, please sign, if you don’t want to sign, tell us that you don’t want to sign.
“This undertaking is intended to put our aspirants in check. A situation where we have 28 aspirant is a good omen for the party. What it means is that the people of Kogi State believe in our party. What it means is that Kogi state is APC and APC is Kogi State.
“I am glad to note that the 28 of you are qualified to contest the election. What that means is that one of you will emerge the next governor of Kogi State. During the last elections, you proved your capability in Kogi State. Infact, it will be out of the ordinary if we don’t win the next election in Kogi State.
“We want you to be good members of APC. We don’t want chaos, we don’t want violence during the primary. As I have always said, primary election is a family affair. We know our opponent. The 28 of you are not opponents. It is only one of you that can fly the party’s flag. That is why we have made out the undertaking.”
The undertaking read in part, “I do hereby undertake to abide by the rules and regulations of the All Progressives Congress Kogi State governorship primary guidelines, the APC constitution, the electoral guidelines and the constitution of the Federal a republic of Nigeria.
.
“I, on behalf of myself and my primary campaign committee, undertake to accept the outcome of the primary election and actively support whoever emerges as winner and I shall not in any way obstruct the smooth prosecution of the campaign.
“I further affirm that I will maintain strict civility during the campaign and later, while in government, I shall be guided by the APC manifesto. In the event of my not winning the primary election, my campaign team/structure will immediately be collapsed into the campaign structure of the elected candidate.
“I accept that a breach of any of the conditions of this undertaking shall be regarded as an nti-party activity, which shall attract the appropriate penalty proscribed by the party’s constitution. I affirm that I am subscribing to this undertaking freely, voluntarily and without any pressure whatsoever.”
