The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State will soon lose more members to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Over 40 senior members of the PDP and their supporters have concluded plans to join the progressives at a rally to be held in the next few days.
Those defecting to the APC include a former Acting Governor, Tope Ademiluyi; a former Ambassador to the Republic of Congo, Mrs. Jolaade Onipede; member of the Fourth National Assembly in the House of Representatives, Olufemi Adeyemi and a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Femi Thomas.
Others are: a former Senate Committee Chairman on Privatisation, Ayo Arise; former governorship candidate, Yinka Akerele; former Commissioner for Finance, Tunji Adeniyi; former Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College, Bichi, Kano State, Bisi Aloba as well as former commissioners and local government chairmen.
Addressing reporters yesterday on the imminent defection, one of PDP’s chiefs, who spoke in confidence, said their action was hinged on the alleged maltreatment of founding members and the hijack of the party by Labour Party (LP) returnees.
