Some former lawmaker, commissioners and special assistants to the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, have said the governor had disappointed the people of the state who voted for him.
The former aides were among members of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected to the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Among the defectors were former Commissioner for Technical and Adult Education, Mrs. Kehinde Momoh; former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and Chieftaincy Matter, Mr. Tayo Oluwatuyi; former state lawmaker, who represented Ilaje State Constituency 1, Mr. Oyebo Aladetan; a former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Banji Kuroloja, among others.
The defectors said they decided to join the APC in their bid to join the ‘Change Train’ which, they said, was moving in the state.
They alleged that the ruling PDP under the leadership of Mimiko had failed the state.
At the ceremony held at the state secretariat of the APC in Akure, a former PDP chieftain, Mr. Bailey Arohunmolase, who spoke on behalf of others, said the former PDP chieftains were ready to work with the APC towards achieving the goal of winning the November 26, 2016 governorship election in the state.
In his reaction to the development, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, described the defectors as ‘light weights’ whose departure would not shake the party.
Fadaka, who stressed that many of the defectors would be disappointed in the APC, said the PDP was waxing stronger on daily basis.
He said, “They are hardly assets wherever they are, they were not relevant in our party and their politics is based on opportunism; wherever they see opportunity, they move. You can be rest assured that within the next few months, they will be disappointed in the APC.”
