The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has announced 180 and 150 as the cut off mark for 2015/2016 UTME admission for degree awarding, Nigeria Certificate in Education and National Diploma awarding institutions in Nigeria.
The cut off mark was adopted by the stakeholders at the 2015 combined policy meeting on admission to Degree, Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and National Innovation Diploma- Awarding Institution in Abuja, yesterday.
They also adopted the 60:40 Science/Arts ratio and the 70:30 Technology/Non-technology ratio for admission. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Macjohn Nwaobiala, while briefing on the modalities for the conduct of the 2015 admissions exercise, urged the tertiary institution heads, to strictly adhere to the conducts and agreements of the meeting.
He however commended JAMB on its success story on JAMB’s exclusive Computer Based Test(CBT), stating that CBT had come to stay as JAMB was recognised as one of the most active participants of Ministry of Education having ground breaking records.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, while briefing the press on the highlights of the meeting said: “We have decided that the cut off mark will be 180 for the universities and 150 for the non-degree institutions. However we welcomed the new fold of institutions admitting this year. So we hope that our vice chancellors, registrars, rectors and provosts will stick to the position and go and implement accordingly so that by October 31, there will be end to the admission for 2015/2016 year; that’s the essence”.
Noting earlier that, University of Port Harcourt and Kaduna Polytechnic were the highest falters in admission regularisation, he said universities without regularization of admission in 2015 would be adequately sanctioned.
He analysed the success of the exclusive CBT test recalling that the blind performed well with the Braille Technology.
He therefore encouraged institutions to give special preferences and easy clearance when the visually impaired were sent to them for admission.
