Ahead of the November 2016 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, on Friday resigned his appointment from the cabinet of Dr Olusegun Mimiko.
The resignation of Jegede came about 10 days after the State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Olusola Ebiseni, resigned from the cabinet also to contest for the primary ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Unlike the resignation of the Ebiseni, which was not known until after the former commissioner had tendered the letter, the action of Jegede was done amidst fanfare.
Jegede was escorted to the Alagbaka Akure seat of government by different interest groups, who rolled out drums, singing and dancing to the Governor’s Office Complex where he submitted the letter to the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Dr Aderotimi Adelola.
While Jegede, who had been rumoured to be the anointed candidate of the incumbent governor, rode in a open-roof Ford Sport Utility van, his people walked by the side and the rear of the vehicle while singing and dancing, praising God that he voluntarily resigned from the Mimiko’s cabinet without blemish.
