Easter message: Ambode, Amosun preach peace, unity and love.

Akinwunmi Ambode
Governors of Lagos and Ogun states, Akinwunmi Ambode and Ibikunle Amosun have called on Christians to show the spirit of unity, love and peace.
Ambode, in his Easter message to Lagos residents, said such fundamental values would go a long way in promoting and strengthening the harmony in the state.
According to him, the season should serve as a reminder of the selflessness, love, sacrifice and tolerance of Jesus Christ.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, the governor said, “Remembering that foundation is particularly meaningful this Easter because our nation is facing challenges that we can overcome if we choose to, by exercising collective tolerance and being ready to make sacrifices.
“Therefore, we must see this period as a time that affords us to think about how we can each help to steer our nation back on the road to prosperity, by working in the spirit of togetherness.”
Ambode also restated his commitment towards making life more comfortable for Lagosians, saying the state government will intensify efforts on road projects, youth empowerment, improved and accessible health care services and increased public safety and security.
Similarly, Amosun in an Easter message, signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Adejuwon Soyinka, called on Christians and all Nigerians to learn from Jesus.
Amosun also advised Nigerians to always provide selfless service to humanity just as Christ demonstrated through his death and resurrection.
He said, “When we show love and offer selfless service just as Christ did, then our nation and indeed the world we live in will be a better place for all of us.”
In separate Easter messages, the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, called for a national rebirth in order to move the nation forward.
Aregbesola, in a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon, urged all to use the period to supplicate to God on behalf of the country so that Nigeria would be able to come out of the present economic challenges.
He said, “It gives me great joy to felicitate with Christians during this Easter celebration. As we rejoice in the glory of God, we must not lose sight of the teachings of the period. Jesus Christ’s life was a demonstration of absolute love. We, as creations of God, must learn to live in love and peace. We must learn to live exemplary lives.”
Also, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi, called on Nigerians to make ample use of the opportunity of the season for sober reflection.
“The teaching on being our brother’s keeper is even more apt now. It can start with a conscious effort at living peaceably with one another, regardless of religious views. Nigeria needs a peaceful environment for development to thrive. And when we pray for peace, we should be prepared to work for peace and live peacefully. And that can start now,” Fayemi said.
In its Easter message, the Osun State House of Assembly said Nigerians should apply the lessons of love, sacrifice and redemption brought by Jesus.
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, in his message, urged all to see the Easter period as an opportunity to increase their efforts at showing love and promotion of peace among mankind.
