Venerable socialite and one of the biggest names in the banking sector for the past four decades, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Chairman, First City Monument Bank, Clocked 82 last Wednesday, March 9.
Uncharacteristically, the white apparel-loving boardroom guru did not roll out the drums or pop champagne. Rather, everything about his birthday was low key. And not a few of his loyalists, acquaintances, associates and family members wondered whether this man of immense wealth had been tempered by age. The ever-smiling billionaire is quieter than ever these days, while ageing gracefully.
Hitherto known for his loud and extravagant shindigs, Otunba is letting go his old ways, preferring to devote a few naira to only important celebrations. Curiously, Otunba Subomi is an avowed lover of kids and he never likes to see them suffer, which explains why he spent millions of Naira to build the sprawling Otunba Tunwase Paediatric Centre in Ijebu, Ogun State.
